5.07 - Gotta Look Up To Get Down - Review

What Happened This Week? Ari is a shocked man at the funeral for Alan Grey, learning that he may fill his shoes as the head of Warner Brothers; Vince is offered a spot for a fashion show; Turtle and Drama try to get laid.

The Funniest Line? "Tonight I'm going to fuck someone so tall her scuff marks will be on my ceiling." Damn, Drama.

What Made This Episode? The deepest moment this show may ever have. Ari and Vince confronting, or maybe accepting, the future ahead of them. The soundtrack amplified the writing and a send off from Ari on the steps the plane was heart breaking. I've been against Ari Gold becoming anything less, or more, than an agent. The last moment had me rethinking this possibility. And that's a damn shame, because you know that if Ari is a studio head, he and Vince will only ever be two strangers hugging it out.

Gripes? The search for Natascha bored me quickly. A charade to keep us busy. The reveal -- Frederick is gay -- wasn't as shocking as one might think (was I the only one to see it coming from a mile away? Okay, maybe half a mile). And did anyone else see Max Payne footage playing silently in the background in Ari's office?

Funniest Cameo? Why must they both be so funny? Jeffrey Tambor takes this episode with one line after the next that had me in rolling. And many others, I'm sure.

Overall Opinion? Behind Fire Sale and Fantasy Island, this is third. If only for the writing and that last bittersweet moment.

Prediction For Next Week? My prediction for next week? Ellin ain't no dummy -- they wouldn't show Ari about to accept the offer without a plan in place. This is my prediction… he doesn't take it. Instead, Ari let's Dana Gordon -- although not an agent, she was formerly with the company and has plenty of experience and also a friend of Vince -- take his place as studio head and has a promise from Dana to make Smokejumpers. Not only does this clear up any holes for this season, it's smart and would make complete sense. Once again, a prediction and nothing more.

Next Week? Everything is coming to a stalemate -- Dana is desperately vying for a place as Ari's second and Jamie Lynn Sigler becomes a member of the cast for this season as Turtle's potential girlfriend.

Tonight's Entourage told me that you gotta look up to get down!

Always a big fan of double meanings, I had struggled to understand the title going into this episode.
But, the meaning is no longer a thing of mystery after watching tonight.

Tonight's episode was all about two things- getting down to business and getting down and dirty.

Now, it is still unclear what Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) was looking up at, but there is no doubt when it came to
Eric Murphy (Kevin Connolly).

So, fellow Entourage fans, help me out. Was it that Ari Gold had to look up at his potential new career as a studio head to get down to business. Or, did it get him down to think that we would be leaving his clients behind?

And, what of Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier), throwing away another million dollars in today's economy? I'm glad he has principles and everything, but don't ask me tonight what I might do if I were him and had a chance at his paydays. All because he was interested in a girl.

Help me, my friends.

Was I pleased to see Vincent turning down a lovely model, because he had a "connection" with Natasha? I guess.

Was it nice to see E pursued for a change? Sure. And, it was amusing to see Connolly's facial expressions.

Was it sad to see Ari so concerned about Vince, that he considered turning down the offer? Maybe.

Maybe the title really means that I gotta look up at the bright side of things. In the end, Doug Ellin delivered for his most ardent male fans- an episode filled with supermodels and a fantasy trip to Hawaii on a private jet.

For the ladies it was nice to see Ari have to explain Dana Gordon (Constance Zimmer) to his wife (Perry Reeves). Who knew Ari never discussed Dana at home? How many other women have had this discussion with their significant other? And, visa versa, I am sure. It is very common to have a "work wife" or "work husband". What does it mean that Ari kept his a secret? Interesting.

This is one episode I'm gonna have to look up all week to get down to the heart of the matter.

Thoughts?

I must respectfully disagree with the prediction that Dana Gordon will become studio head. I just can't see her in that position.

I do agree, as I'm sure everyone does, that Ari will not accept the offer. They wouldn't show him walking into the office in next weeks preview without a twist.

I also think this ties for top episode of the season with Fire Sale. The moment betwee Ari and Vince in the end had me as close as I've ever been to tearing up over an ep of Entourage.

It wouldn't be good for the show if Ari takes the job.

Prediction: Ari spends most of the next episode considering it and the ramifications it might have with his favorite client.

I do not think Doug Ellin will spend an entire season in gloomy times. I predict episodes 8 and 9 to be a bit down and dramatic, and then 10-12 to bring us back up to high times with the guys as we have gotten accustomed to throughout the show.

Anyone other than me wondering what's up with Smokejumpers?

And what happened with Vince and Justine Chapin?

(Never thought I'd care about a TV show this much!)

Furthermore, I for one am pretty pumped to see Weinstein back in the picture. He has always been one of my favorites.

What if he finally replaces Ari and takes Vince as a client????

Next Sunday seems like an eternity away...

Vince totally does Smokejumpers. Back in NY. Ari ends up not taking the job. He realizes he loves to control people's careers, not projects.

Michael (hey there, fellow name buddy!) --

My reasoning for choosing Dana was simply that -- if not Dana, then who? Even tonight Ari complimented here. Ari may be a bit brash or mean, but he's known for always doing the right thing.

Vince and Justine probably had a fantastic night -- wild, raunchy sex -- but that's all it was. Plus, she had to record the rest of her album.

Great reasons, though.

I, like everyone else, was so close to tears last night. It was truly sad. All the stress Ari had to go through at the agency that day made it a bit easier to see why Ari would leave his own company for greener pastures. I would love it if Dana Gordon took the studio head position.

Oh, and the "My wife's in the car" should have been the line of the episode. That moment was classic!

Cant you guys just imagine Ari barging into WB telling Dana that he got her that job every time he needs a green lighted movie?!

Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees

In the future, you can go to www.hbo.com/entourage and then go to the music credits for each episode.

While that moment was great, I thought the writing in this one was below average. Hence the need for Turtle's doodles for laughs.

The only line I liked was "I don't follow." "You will..."
