6.01 - Drive - Review

What Happened This Week? Vince learned to drive; Eric considered moving out of Vince’s house; Lloyd battled for a promotion.

The Funniest Line(s): “That’s why when you’re on a hot streak, you gotta press it like blackjack!”

What Made This Episode? First of all, it’s fantastic to see the gang in action again, but the theme of moving on was evident. And it worked. The premiere seemed to rely more on dramatic elements than comedic ones, and the balance between growing up while trying to sustain your relationships was dealt with perfectly.

In all honesty, this felt like the first time that Sloan and Eric’s relationship seemed interesting to me. I hope they continue along this path of a sort of tug-of-war between the two -- I think it’s a nice change from the usual.

We must not, however, ignore Lloyd’s role. His showdown with Ari is already a highlight to me -- he finally took a stand for himself after seasons of being trampled upon.

Favorite Moment? My immediate reaction is to say Lloyd finally defending himself, but Vince sitting alone in his massive mansion alone, while his friends moved on was touching. It worked.

Gripes? Even though I loved the premiere, I have to ask: what’s the goal this season? There’s a theme -- but no apparent goal. We may only be one episode in, but season five had Vince returning to Los Angeles and trying to break back in to Hollywood. Season four was about Medellin. Season six is about… making the Enzo Ferrari film? Hopefully the goal will become more clear as the season progresses.

Overall Opinion? Aside from a few gripes, this was the perfect premiere.

Next Week: Gatsby premiere. Need I say more?

I have to say that the season premieres for entourage keep getting better and better.... i wasn't expecting the show to go so deep and personal so soon into the season... After reading some reviews of the first 2 episodes.. i had an idea in my head that the season premiere would be vince and his "entourage" partying it up and drinking a lot and doing the usual shit such as picking up girls and doing funny shit... but of course! the show has reached it's 6th season and the characters are growing up! we should've seen this coming.... i mean .. think about it... You didn't actually think they were all going to live together 24/7 forever did you?..... but could this be the end of entourage.... my bets are on NO.... just like vince could never let go of Ari... this is what the show runs on.... would it still be "Entourage"... if vince was alone all the time in his gigantic mansion.... i'm ten times more excited about next weeks episode than i was about the season premiere... mainly because of the fact that the writers (doug ellin etc) mentioned that this season was going to be a throwback to season 1.. and everyone knows season 1 was just girls, booze, weed, and parties... i was almost positive that i knew what to expect from the season premiere but then they hit us with that somewhat depressing ending with vince alone in the dark in his mansion... "wtf was that?"... i'm not sure what to expect for next week... i'm not even sure what the ending of the season premiere meant?... the boys are getting older and moving on with their lives.. but i wonder how much this is really going to effect the entourage. Every season has a goal...and seeing the season premiere makes me think that the writers of the show are getting right into it... and spending less time on the somewhat pointless bar/club/sex scenes than they have in the past.
