5.11 - Play'n With Fire - Review

What Happened This Week? Smokejumpers was cancelled; The boys head home.

The Funniest Lines? This stunning episode has me reeling. "In ninety minutes, you could be back blowin' hack writers just to get them to have a cup of coffee with you!" "All will be well… unless Edward Norton blew up."

The Funniest Cameo? Peter Berg was hardly funny, but he's a nice addition. Peter Berg is actually represented by Ari Emanuel and was his college roommate. Another story taken from Emanuel's life and implemented into Ari's.

What Made This Episode? Too much. The overwhelming feeling that Entourage is back and in full force. This is what I've been waiting for from this season. It's here. Nonetheless, surprise after surprise hit.

The film has been cancelled. I can't think of a recent incident where a film of such scope and size is cancelled after only a week, but it was still a rather large shock… and almost too much to take in. How could they cancel the film that quickly? Is Vince really done?

Dana Gordon stepped out of her shell and became the boss. She screamed -- no, shouted -- but it still didn't do much.

Gripes? I have only one: cancelling the film seemed a bit hasty. It simply doesn't work like that.

Prediction? I'm puzzled. On a limb, I'd say that Vince does land a role in Sant's film, but it's small, but ends up garnering buzz.

Overall Opinion? Entourage is back. It so is.

Next Week? Back to New York.

Where there is smoke, there's fire. And tonight's episode of Entourage was hot.

With the fires raging in Calfornia at this time, a movie, even a fictional movie in a fictional tv show, is very current and aprapos.

But, alas, Smokejumpers won't be coming to a theater near you anytime soon. Why, you ask? Because production of this film just went up in smoke!

That's the bad news. Equally bad is that this film was to be Vincent Chase's (Adrian Grenier's) return to the big screen. This once hot actor was blazing a trail across Hollywood. But, since the disasterous Medellin, he hasn't been able to reignite his career.

The good news is that, despite the fact that hot head Verner fired Vince from the set (what the heck, Eric Murphy (Kevin Connolly)? why didn't you stand up for your boy?), the whole movie has now been put on the back burner. So, rather that it looking like Vince was let go because his acting was less than inspired, it will be just another example of a movie that went over budget by burning thru money too fast

Verner's combustable persona saw fit to that when Dana Gordon (Constance Zimmer) and Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) confronted him and led him to bust up a meeting with the studio owner. After that, it all went up in smoke and Vince, Dana and Verner all got burned.

Meanwhile, Turtle aka SAL (Jerry Ferrara) found himself back in LA play'n with fire with Soprano's star Jamie Lynn Siegler. Will these two continue to keep this new flame going next season or will Vince's career extinguish this budding romance the same way it smothered Eric and Sloan (Emmanuelle Chriqui)?

Next week, Vince and the boys head back home to Queens, NY to a warm welcome home. With Season 6 confirmed, I have to believe that, like Phoenix, our hero will rise from the flames and be hot again. But, based on the previews, it looks like things will blow up even more before that happens.

Let's hope Doug Ellin puts a fire under production and we start getting sneak peeks from the set again in February 2009. Because, if we thought waiting for over a year to find out what happened with Medellin was unbearable, this is going to make it seem like that was a day at the beach.

Loved it. It was hilarious and depressing all at once. Ari stole the show, again. And I loved the Turtle/Jaime connection. It sucks that he had to leave her. I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope she comes back. She's the new Sloan, who I hoped would be back tonight.

I don't like that the finale won't be uplifting...Can't help but think when Vince eventually makes a movie, it'll be an Oscar nominating performance.

best entourage episode ever.... or no correction: 2nd best entourage episode... theres still next week...

i can't begin to go on about how many surprising turns this episode had... Instead of bringing up each one in order... and seriously whats the point... everybody reading this has obviously already seen the episode.... I'm just going to acknowledge the entourage writers for going the direction they are going... Tonights episode blew me away.... i thought i was gonna cry at the end... and the crazy thing was i wasn't sure if they were going to be tears of sadness or tears of joy.... I'm not missing a second of next weeks episode.

I have a very bold prediction for the season finale: this is NOT a spoiler.

Somehow Vince gets the part in the film Eric is trying for in the preview. They start to celebrate, and then they find out that Vince is wanted for either Aquaman 3(since the studio loved what he had done before they cancelled smoke jumpers) or Queens Blvd. 2. Ending Season 5 with having Vince to make a decision on what movie to do.
What'ya think?

I hope not Joe. QB 2? As much as I want to see Billy, I dont think he's the guy for a sequel. Not to mention, Eric thinks he's past his prime. And Aquaman 3? Well, they would probably go with Jake again rather than return to Vince..I'm hoping he does the Gus Van Sant movie and gets an Oscar nominating performance, and giving Vince his dignity back!
